Mantra: Illuminating Mind, Body, Spirit

Saturday,May 4, 10-4, Wild Rice retreat, bayfield, wi $85

Mantra Yoga is a part of Nada Yoga, the yoga of sound. A mantra is a precise combination of sacred syllables from the Sanskrit language that form a nucleus of spiritual energy. Calming and grounding, Sanskrit mantras help unwind and dissolve restrictive patterns in the subtle body, creating space for increased vibrancy, clarity, and opening to a luminous natural state. This workshop will begin with an introduction to the Sanskrit alphabet, so that participants will have basic pronunciation of the sounds that form mantra. We will explore mantra as a support and enhancement for seated meditation, Restorative Yoga poses, and Savasana. We will experience mantras traditionally used for specific intentions, such as “removal of obstacles” or protection. For health and well-being, we will learn about and practice the “Mantra Purusha,” the ancient Tantric practice called Nyasa whereby mantras are “placed upon” the body via sound and focus. This deep form of yoga Nidra has many important applications relative to meditation, yoga therapy and Ayurvedic medicine.

This workshop is valuable for anyone with serious interest in yoga asana and meditation, and provides 5 hours CE credits for yoga teachers.

Includes lunch. Please pre-register:  920-858-1078 or jenny.tumas@gmail.com

Yoga Sutra Study Group

carnegie library, Bayfield, wi,thursdays 5:30-6:30pm March 28; April 11; May 1, 22

Free group. Free-will donations accepted toward the library’s pillar fund.

In this ongoing group we inquire into Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, a foundational text for yoga and meditation practice—found by many to provide a path to a clearer, more compassionate and ethical life. Through chanting of the text in Sanskrit, and group discussion, we will hope to find some “take-home” wisdom. Newcomers are welcome! No yoga experience required! This is not a physical yoga class. If you can, bring:  Yoga Sutras Workbook, The Certainty of Freedom (2nd Edition), by Vyaas Houston ( $25 at americansanskrit.com) Otherwise, I have extra copies to share.
